My name is Mariya and I am a pediatric speech language pathologist. Helping my clients meet their goals and become confident makes my “job” feel incredibly rewarding. I feel like a rock star when I witness a kid say a sound, begin using words, or follow a simple direction. The fact is, most clients won’t reach their goals unless parents and other professionals are on-board my train so I made this blog to be a resource to anyone interested in helping children communicate better. Take a look- my blog home is filled with fun goodies for parents, SLPs, teachers, and everyone in between.
I completed my bachelors of science in speech and hearing sciences at the University of Washington in 2010. During that time, I worked at as nursing assistant at a local children’s hospital and also as an instructional assistant for students with Autism. I completed my masters of science degree from Syracuse University in 2013 and obtained my certificate of clinical practice (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association in 2014. I am also a certified teacher in New York state. I am trained in the Kauffman Approach to Motor Speech Impairments and Level 1 PROMPT as well as the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach to feeding. In addition, I have taken continuing education courses in the following areas: preschool and school age stuttering, phonological awareness, early literacy development, narrative language, tongue thrust, frontal/lateral lisp disorders, motor speech disorders, auditory processing disorder, and assessment/intervention strategies for linguistically diverse populations. I am constantly looking to expand my ‘therapeutic tool belt’ by exploring various evidence based interventions and continuing education classes to help my clients.
I live in Seattle with my husband and our fur baby (that’s crazy lady for cat), Tommy Salami. We love to explore and be tourists in our city. I also help my younger sister run the Code Care Guild, which raises money for uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Lastly, my hubs and I are proud supporters of the University of Washington, especially during football season – GO DAWGS! We also love Syracuse University, so GO ORANGE!
